Welcome: The Association looks forward to YOU becoming a Member!
The Association was set up in April 1999 and within the first year the membership had grown to 60 boats covering a geographical spread from the Shetland Islands, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, England, Channel Islands & France. Currently the association has many members throughout the the world.
In late 2001 the association established it's own World Wide Web Site which is now fully available to all members. The web site generates enquires from all over the world; USA, Japan, Russia etc.
The objects of the Association are to provide members with social, sailing and other activities; to promote the image of the Maxi class and to exchange ideas and share the benefits of membership. This is principally achieved through the web site, participation in the programme of annual events and our Annual General Meeting.
The Association has a programme of annual events and maintains contact with the main UK brokerage and Nimbus-Maxi, Sweden. Contact is already established with the "sister" Nimbus Owners Club. The Committee also endeavours to negotiate member benefits with trade organisations.
In the summer sailing season there are a number of organised rallies and our regional representatives keep in contact with all Members. Each year there are rallies to the continent, for example France & Belgium.
Some members are keen successful racers while others cruise single handed or with their families including trans-ocean voyages. At most events berthing discounts are obtained at marinas during a Rally. As families are especially welcome, the organisers try to negotiate meal reductions for children.
The joining subscription is £20 (April to the following March) per boat and the only condition of membership is that the owner /joint owners / partner owns a Maxi Yacht. On joining, you will receive a free Maxi Owners Association pennant, a copy of the Constitution, access to the private members area on the web and a members list (with boat identification).
New Members joining from November to April enjoy an extended first year that covers the whole Membership year commencing that April.
